It’s been a while since I last wrote here. The main reason? My dissertation swallowed up my time, energy, and brain space. Twenty thousand words later, it’s finally done and with that, I’ve closed a big chapter of my degree.
But in the time since I last posted, life has shifted in an exciting way: I’m now a field archaeologist. After years of lectures, seminars, and essays, I’m finally out on site, trowel in hand, learning the rhythm of commercial digs and seeing how all those theories play out in the soil. It’s been a steep learning curve, but a brilliant one.
Between finishing the dissertation, stepping into the field, and still squeezing in quadball, volunteering, and a bit of painting here and there, the blog just slipped away. But I’ve missed it. Writing here gives me the chance to reflect, to share bits of the journey that don’t fit neatly into an academic paper or a trench report.
So here I am again, returning to Knots and Trowels. Posts might not be clockwork regular, but I’ll be sharing life as a field archaeologist, thoughts on material culture, and probably the odd side-tangent from quadball or everyday life.
Thanks for sticking around. It feels good to be back and this time, I’ll be writing with muddy boots on.
